Meet The Team

President & CEO

Rod K. Mayer

Rod has been in the orthopedic business since 1977. His history in the orthopaedic industry includes extensive experience in sales, distribution and business development with an intense passion to serve surgeons in addressing their unmet clinical and practice needs. In 2002, Rod founded DVO, a company focused on the development and commercialization of innovative orthopaedic products for the upper extremity market. Rod co-led the development, growth and eventual sale of DVO to Tornier, Inc. in March of 2007.


Dan Stichter

Dan began his career in public accounting serving public and private clients in manufacturing, orthopedic, internet startup, and financial service industries. He has been a high-powered contributor on International teams at both public and private orthopedic companies. Dan’s experience in controllership, treasury management, financial modeling, and lean process improvement has allowed him to be a driver of profitable growth throughout his career. He has participated in multiple M&A events in the orthopedic space and understands the orthopedic financial business model from design to patient.


Ryan D. Schlotterback

Ryan has spent 15+ years in the orthopedic industry, with experience in a variety of team and managerial roles within product development including lead engineer, project manager, and group manager. Ryan has commercialized and led teams of engineers to develop products in a variety of markets including hip, spine, extremity, and soft tissue fixation. Along with commercializing medical devices, Ryan has a track record of innovation including eight patents issued or currently in prosecution.


Chris Cook

Chris Cook has worked for 13+ years in Orthopaedics in the field of quality engineering. 10 years of his career were spent with DePuy Synthes with an additional 3.5 years in contract manufacturing with an orthopedic focus. Chris has led worldwide project teams in new product development, supplier quality, as well as operations quality. Chris has a B.S. from Purdue Fort Wayne in Industrial Engineering Technology and an M.S. from Indiana Wesleyan in Strategic Management. Chris’s strong focus in the area of quality is a tremendous asset to Nextremity Solutions’ i3 Strategic Solutions product development strategy.

Executive Director of Marketing & Communications

Dave Temple

Dave Temple has spent the past 20 plus years working in marketing, advertising and branding for everything from large corporations, International non-profits and small agencies. The first 10 years of his career were spent with DePuy as a branding expert with a focus on eMarketing to both surgeon and consumer markets. Dave is also an expert in social media and has traveled to Israel for Tel Aviv University, Normandy France as a featured speaker on social media, as well as multiple speaking opportunities on the use of social media in business.

Mike Coon

Mike has been involved in the health care field since 1985. While at DePuy Synthes, Mike was responsible for leading upstream and downstream marketing efforts to drive six products from concept through world-wide commercialization. During this time, Mike led several branding initiatives and KOL development that led the company to dominant market positions. Mike has six design and methods patents related to shoulder arthroplasty. Mike also has extensive experience in health care compliance and professional relations.

Jay Morris

Since 1992, Jay has worked in the field of orthopedics and has been successful in selling products in multiple categories including total joints, extremity, spine, sports medicine, biologics, and clinical products. As CEO of Gulf Coast Surgical Services, Jay helped to prove that the extremity market is one to which our industry should pay close attention. As an independent distributor his company was the multi-time winner of virtually every sales award offered and was the largest extremity distributor in the US for many years.

Adam Finley

Adam has been in the orthopedic industry for 11+ years. For the last 3 years, Adam has gained vast amounts of experience across all orthopedic disciplines in roles of developing custom implants and pushing company wide innovation. Adam worked closely with surgeons from around the globe to create implant solutions for over 1900 patients. Adam has 16 patents either granted or in prosecution.

Greg Denham

Greg has 16+ years of engineering and project management experience, mostly focused in sports medicine. He is named on 79 patents issued or currently in prosecution primarily pertaining to soft tissue solutions in the knee, shoulder, hip, and small joints. Having commercialized a wide range of implants and disposable instruments, Greg has extensive experience developing concepts into market relevant products.

John Pepper

John is a Registered Professional Engineer and holds a MS in Biomedical Engineering. He has been included in multiple publications, and is additionally named on 55 issued patents. John was also the Chief designer of the Smith & Nephew Trigen Nail System. He has experience in a test lab environment additionally has veterinary surgical experience.

Matt Coyne

Matt graduated from University of Iowa with a degree in Biomedical Engineering with a focus in musculoskeletal biomechanics. Prior to joining Nextremity Solutions, Matt spent 4 years as a project engineer for Life Spine & Centric Medical developing lower extremity and spinal implant and instruments. Matt has launched 5 lower extremity systems, has received 510K clearance for 10 systems, and currently has 4 patents.

Daren Granger

Daren spent 11+ years in the orthopedic industry prior to joining Nextremity Solutions. Daren previously worked for Zimmer Biomet, specializing in the development of custom solutions for hundreds of patients throughout the US. He additionally spent time in the area of trauma nail product development. Daren also has experience in the areas of elbow, shoulder, ankle, sports medicine product development. He currently holds 3 patents, with one in prosecution.

Joel Carne

Joel joins the Nextremity Solutions product development team with over 7 years of orthopedic development experience.  Joel previously worked for Zimmer Biomet, specializing in the development of custom-made specialty device for patients across the globe.  Joel graduated for Kettering university (Flint, MI) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Thomas Holton

Thomas Holton serves on the engineering team at Nextremity Solutions. He comes from 2+ years of orthopedic experience at Zimmer Biomet. As a development engineer, he remediated implant and instrument design controls for two separate efforts. He also supported new product development within the knee division. Before orthopedics, Thomas worked in a research and development firm testing concepts for the DOD and assembling a medical device for FDA clearance.

Kent Kohart

Kent Kohart previously worked for Zimmer Biomet and specialized in knee product development, as well as surgeon specialty instrument development. Kent has additional experience in automotive and manufacturing industries. Kent graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in management. He was also the President of the Purdue Waterski Team.

Shane Hartle

Shane has been in the orthopedic business since 1980. His history in orthopedics includes extensive experience in R & D, Material Testing and Quality. Shane’s Quality experience includes DFMEA, PFMEA, CAPA, Audits, Inspection Criteria and managing associates. Shane spent 29 years working for Zimmer, in which 20 of those years were spent in the R&D Quality Lab. He also spent 9 of those years as a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer. Shane has also worked as a Quality Manager for Greatbatch Medical.

Beth Rooney

Beth comes to Nextremity Solutions with 15+ years in the orthopedic industry. Her experience includes managing customer service for two startup orthopedic companies, and most recently, quality system compliance with Medtronic. Beth brings a strong understanding of quality systems with experience in CAPA, document control, training, quality system auditing and external audit management. Beth has a B.S. from Indiana University and is an ASQ Certified Quality Auditor.

Ashley Chiu

Ashley comes to Nextremity solutions with 5+ experience as a Quality Engineer. She has worked at the two big companies Depuy and Zimmer Biomet in a wide array of quality functions, most notably her background in design controls. Her background includes risk controls, design history files, nonconformance, complaint handling, supplier product verification, as well as quality system process improvements. Ashley graduated at The Ohio State University with a B.S in Biomedical Engineering and got her masters at University of Cincinnati in Mechanical Engineering.

Quality and Regulatory Specialist

Elise Fox

Elise Fox comes to Nextremity Solutions after working as a Quality Systems Engineer for Medtronic. Her background includes document control, training, quality systems improvement, external audit support, and CAPA, with a focus on data analysis, software validation, and supporting OUS Regulatory Requests. Elise has also worked for Siemens Medical Solutions as a Software Test Engineer performing verification and validation of Molecular Imaging software. Elise has a clinical educational background with a bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Quality Assurance Coordinator II

Chelsey Sexton

Chelsey has more than 12 years combined experience with a focus in orthopedics and breast health. As Quality Assurance Coordinator, Chelsey is responsible for ensuring that Nextremity Solutions maintains its high standards in product quality. Chelsey received her degree in Business Administration from the International Business College.

Product Manager

Tad Nieter

Tad comes to Nextremity with 5 years of educational experience. As Product Manager, Tad works closely with the Nextremity Solutions sales team and helps coordinate one-on-one, as well as group education of surgeons and sales representatives regarding all products that are developed and manufactured by Nextremity Solutions via i3 Strategic Solutions. Tad assists with the development of sales training and educational materials to help drive product awareness, adoption, and market success with the surgeons and sales representatives of Nextremity Solutions and those of our industry partners.

Cathy May

Cathy has over 30 years of experience as an Administrative/Executive Assistant, along with many years of experience in Marketing, Sales Administration and Customer Service in Retail, Banking, Manufacturing and Orthopedic industries. She currently serves as the Office Administrator and as Executive Assistant to Rod Mayer, President & CEO of Nextremity Solutions.


Cheri Trier

Cheri has been in the Orthopedic industry in Warsaw since 2009 with positions in Finance and Medical Education. She has extensive experience working with Orthopedic surgeons in Sports Medicine, Extremities, Hip and Knee during her time in Medical Education at Zimmer and Zimmer Biomet. She has 14+ years of accounting and finance experience in small business, non-profit and manufacturing. Cheri is proud to have an MBA in business from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Jenny Gordon

Jenny joined the Nextremity Solutions, Inc. team in August 2013. Prior to joining the team, Jenny worked at PNC Bank as a part time teller and previously managed the teller line. Jenny has also spent time working on her family dairy farm, as well as working in the Accounts Receivable department of her family repair shop.

Company Board

Mr. Schlotterback brings a wealth of knowledge in the medical device industry and has spent over 25 years in orthopedics. His areas of expertise range from research and development, marketing, sales, business development to general management. Mr. Schlotterback served as President, Zimmer SpineTech of Zimmer Holdings, Inc. since October 6, 2003. Mr. Schlotterback was responsible for the sales, Marketing, Distribution, Manufacturing and Product Development of Zimmer’s spinal products on a global basis. He joined Zimmer over 25 years ago as a Product Development engineer and has held Vice President-level positions in Product Development, Engineering, Innovation and Marketing Services. He served as Vice President of Area Sales for Zimmer Americas and Vice President of Global Services where he developed a world wide data base management system, a Physician Practice Management program and a Digital Templating System. From 1996 to 2000, Mr. Schlotterback served as Zimmer’s Vice President of New Product Development where he was responsible for all development activities for Orthopedic Products Division, and developed an innovative process that led to the introduction of the industry’s first minimally invasive techniques for total hip and knee replacement. Prior to Zimmer, Mr. Schlotterback served in senior management roles for Johnson & Johnson’s DePuy Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Division, Mitek Surgical Products, where he led new product development, research and business development, and the eventual acquisition of Mitek by Johnson & Johnson. He also served as Vice President, Product and Business Development from 1992 to 1995 for Mitek Surgical, later a division of Johnson & Johnson. Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Schlotterback was responsible for the development of the Miller/Galante Knee System. He has a proven track record in new product launches, strategic and business planning, organizational leadership and relationship development. He currently serves as Chairman of OrthoPediatrics Corp. and is Warsaw Chapter President for VisionTech Angels.   Mr. Schlotterback holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University.
Mr. Mayer has been in the orthopedic business since 1977. He started his orthopaedic career with DePuy serving 18 years as a union employee, marketing trainee, sales associate, Independent Agent, member of the Sales Advisory Board, Business Development Director of their ProSource Division, and full-line Distributor serving on the President’s Council. His history in the orthopaedic industry includes extensive experience in sales, distribution and business development.

In the fall of 2002 Mr. Mayer founded DVO, a company focused on the development and commercialization of innovative orthopaedic products for the upper extremity market. Mr. Mayer co-led the development, growth and eventual sale of DVO Extremity Solutions LLC to Tornier, Inc. in March of 2007. Over the next two years, Mr. Mayer served as Vice President of Sales Execution and was a member of the Tornier Executive Management team. In April of 2009, Mr. Mayer co-founded Del Palma Orthopedics, a product development company, where he was named President and CEO. In January of 2013, he joined Nextremity Solutions Inc. and currently serves as President and CEO. In October of 2016, Mr. Mayer pioneered a novel micro-commercialization strategy which lead to an exclusive distribution agreement with Zimmer Biomet for the company’s foot and ankle deformity correction products.

Mr. Mayer currently resides in Warsaw, Indiana, is happily married to his wife of 23 years and has been blessed with 5 children.

Dr. Weiner is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is Chief of Orthopedic Trauma at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. He received his medical degree and did his residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He completed his fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery.

Castle Connolly annually ranks Dr. Weiner as one of the top orthopaedic surgeons in New York. Dr. Weiner has successfully developed and commercialized several medical devices with the leading orthopaedic companies. He has numerous publications in the field. In addition to consulting with orthopaedic companies, he regularly conducts training seminars for orthopaedic surgeons.

Dr. Stuart Katchis is Section Chief, Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. He received his medical degree at New York College and did his residency Lennox Hill Hospital. He interned at The Children’s Hospital in Boston. He completed fellowships at both Cleveland Clinic Hospital and at Harbor UCLA Hospital.

Dr. Katchis is a nationally recognized leader in the field. He is a frequent presenter and has numerous publications on issues of foot and ankle surgery. He has successfully been involved in product development of several medical devices.

Since 2006 Mr. Katchis has been a principal at SKL Partners, LLC. located in Scarsdale, New York.

From 2001 to 2006 Mr. Katchis was the Managing Principal and Co-owner of Julia B. Fee Real Estate, now Sothebys International Realty.  Julia B. Fee has been long recognized as the preeminent provider of residential real estate services in Westchester County.

From 1986 to 2001 Mr. Katchis was the co-founder of several computer companies.  Over the course of the 15 years Mr. Katchis held the positions of President, CEO and Chairman of the Board.  These various companies encompassed over 550 people and in excess of 350 sales professionals covering the continental United States.

From 1983 to 1986, Mr. Katchis was the Director of Operations for an exclusive Manhattan Fitness and Rehabilitation Center the Sports Training Institute.

From 1979 to 1982 Mr. Katchis was the Civilian Director of Research for the United States Navy in Boston MA.  This unit focused on Leukemia research working with over 150 patients affiliated with three teaching hospitals in the Boston area.  Mr. Katchis and his colleagues published many papers in leading medical journals.

Mr. Katchis has a dual degree in Biology and Chemistry from Boston University.  In addition Mr. Katchis has completed postgraduate studies in the area of Neurophysiology at Columbia University.

Mr. Katchis is a resident of Chappaqua, NY for the last 14 years where he lives with his wife Frostine and their four boys Justin, Derek, Ryan and Garrett.

Mr. DeVito is a Managing Director in Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s investment banking Global Energy & Power Group. He is also the Managing Partner of JCS Partners LLC, a private investment company he founded in 2009. He has 30 years of investment banking, capital markets and investment experience and has held several senior positions in the capital markets and investment banking divisions at Merrill Lynch and Lehman Brothers. He graduated from Seton Hall University where he received his B.A. in Finance and continued on to receive an M.B.A in Finance from Fordham University. Mark and his wife, Kathleen, have six children and live in Rumson, NJ.
Mr. Moore serves as a member of Timucuan’s investment committee, and is involved in all aspects of the firm’s investment efforts. Prior to joining Timucuan in June 2005, Mr. Moore served as a Vice President in Marsh & McLennan’s Risk & Insurance Practice. He received an M.B.A. from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he graduated with distinction. Mr. Moore also holds a B.A. in English with Honors, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Florida. Mr. Moore was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2009.
Kenny Hancock has more than 25 years of experience as a healthcare executive and entrepreneur, with a track record in establishing successful companies focused in the development and management of physician-owned surgical facilities. Mr. Hancock has co-founded three companies – OrthoLink Physicians Corporation, Surgical Alliance Corporation and Meridian Surgical Partners – each of which experienced a successful start-up phase, investor funding, growth-phase to maturity and exit. Prior to these companies, he spent more than a decade with global medical device leader DePuy. Mr. Hancock’s expertise is centered in forging physician partnerships, developing cutting edge medical facilities and growing business. Mr. Hancock presents frequently at national healthcare industry conferences and seminars, and he received his B.A. in Business from the University of Kentucky.
